VMKV Engineering College is the first college in this region selected by Ministry of MSME, Government of India, New Delhi to recognize our institution as Business Incubator under the scheme Support for Entrepreneurial and Managerial Development of SMEs through Incubators. The aim of the incubator is to incubate/promote the innovative ideas of Engineering students, technocrats and industrialists and providing financial and technical support for promoting entrepreneurship by the Ministry of MSME, GoI, New Delhi. Accordingly the college has setup an Incubator centre namely “Prof.Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam Business Incubator”, and all the 7 innovative ideas presented by the institution have been approved and sanctioned by the Ministry for financial grant to the tune of 43.5 Lakhs in the year 2015-16.

In continuation to the above, the Ministry placed the only 5 proposals in their meeting as first phase and called the representatives from the Host Institute to present the above proposals in New Delhi. Accordingly Dr.A.Nagappan, the Principal and Executive Head of the Business Incubator and Dr.V.Anbazhagan, the Manager of the Business Incubator visited New Delhi, participated in the selection meeting convened by the Development Commissioner (MSME) and presented the 5 proposals in the presence of top officials of the Ministry. We are glad to mention that 2 proposals have been sanctioned the financial grant to the tune of 10.75 Lakhs and 2 proposals have been deferred for clarifications.

Our Institution has been identified by Ministry of Commerce and Industries, GoI New Delhi as an Incubator for providing recommendation letter to start-ups for availing funding benefits from various Government agencies. This privilege has been accorded by the Ministry to selected incubators throughout the country and we are first among them for getting that coveted status. Out of 207 Incubators throughout the country only 47 incubators have been selected by the Ministry for issuing recommendation to funding agencies for start-ups. Our Institution is first in the list out of 47 through which the start-up India campaign is being popularised among the budding entrepreneurs. The recommendation letter has to be issued to beneficiary after due verification and diligence in the capacity of Executive Head of the Business Incubator.

“Prof.Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam Business Incubator” has also submitted 11 proposals for financial support from MSME – Centre of Excellence, IISc, Bangalore. The Director of the Centre Mr.S.M.Jamkhandi very much appreciated the innovative ideas and effort of VMKV Engineering College and immediately selected 2 ideas and sanctioned financial support to the tune of 3 Lakhs each and further 5 of our projects have been approved for financial sanction. Further the remaining 4 proposals would be considered for financial support shortly.

VMKV Engineering is Collaborating with Defence Food Research Laboratory, Mysore for the past 5 years in the area of Food Processing Techniques. In this connection, our Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering has recently developed a High Frequency Induction Heater for cooking foods using pressure cookers having a high capacity of 60 litres. DFRL has taken this innovation and this new technology will be launched by the DRDO Chairman shortly. In addition we are currently developing Cryogenic grinding machine for spices, Chapathi Oil spraying and heating system, Solar Induction heater for food processing industries.
